Style Inspiration: Dior and I
Spontaneous events are often the best. Upon waking this Sunday morning I was certainly not expecting to attend a film screening at SIFF and to get to listen in on a Q&A with director Frederic Tcheng of Dior and I. But after reading the Seattle Times this morning I decided to head to Lincoln Square with my mom to catch a screening of this new documentary about Raf Simons entry into the role of artistic director at Dior. As a fan of documentaries and especially style related ones (Valentino: The Last Emperor was actually also co directed by Frederic Tcheng), I really enjoyed this film and how it brought a warmth to this seemingly cold industry. I would definitely recommend seeing this film if you want to see a behind the scenes view of a couture fashion house as well as a profile of a designer rising in rank. Seeing as this film is being brought into distribution in the fall that should be possible without having to attend a film festival!
Now for what I wore today. Since this was a film about the Dior brand and Christian was famous for the "new look" of nipped in waists and skirts accentuating the hips, I decide to wear my vintage plaid skirt. But since I didn't want to look too late 1940's I wore this skirt with my new Chinese Laundry ankle boots I got at DSW for 20 dollars (70 percent off the original price) and a varsity jacket. Paired with a sunflower crop top I think I managed to pull off the right balance of classy and sporty. Plus wearing a girly mid length skirt was a nice change from my usual skinny jeans or mini, perfectly suitable for casually twirling down the street.
