Parental Advisory: Graphic Content

I've been a fan of printed clothing for quite a while now, a recent iPhoto search on my laptop even revealed a saved photo of A$AP Rocky in a "Guilty Parties" jacket in my archives. There's just something about blatant statements on clothing that I find refreshing. This "trend" appeals to me because in a way its un-mistakenly a youth driven concept. Sure, generations before us rocked band tee shirts and logos, but they didn't sport words and phrases without symbolic representation. With the rise in popularity of Tumblr, and the likes of Yik Yak, splaying you feelings out to the world is the ideology of this era, so why wouldn't we take it a step further and wear it?

I recently discovered (through the magic that is Tumblr of course) a soon to be released jacket by Alex Ordonez. A simple cardigan in silhouette, the phrase "Everything is Confusing At This Point" is boldly printed in white on the black of the piece.  What draws me to this item specifically is the truth of it. Yes, everything is confusing at the point; growing up is a difficult manner to grasp and so is personal style (so you might catch me in this jacket in a few days or weeks).

But there is of course a drawback to the "personalization" of clothing items, this being the somewhat ridiculous markup percent (can you tell I go to FIDM?). Of course these items are not worth the high prices, but because of whoever made them, or the hype, they now cost almost the same as designer creations. This gives us the option of taking the DIY route. Grabbing a denim or varsity jacket at a thrift store and some materials at say Michael's is a much cheaper alternative than scouring online or hitting the streetwear shops. And well, the possibilities for design are of course endless.

But whatever you decide, Warning: Graphic Style Content.

Vintage shorts found in Vancouver.

When you un-intentionally wear almost the same outfit it sort of reiterates your friendship. Denim shorts and white sneakers just so happened to be what we both picked out this morning in separate parts of the city, and that's a fun thing to discover when you meet up. I mean quite frankly I didn't have a specific look in my head when I put these things together in the morning, but I can say I was feeling a bit sassier than usual with my exponentially large hair (due to the fact that its about 90 degree in my un-air conditioned apartment currently), so over sized grandma shorts and a loose shirt it was.

Upon meeting Kyler in North Hollywood we then made a quick trip to the recently opened Tea Pop cafe for some deliciously refreshing drinks (honestly). I would certainly have to name this spot as a new favorite as the atmosphere and crowd is right on point (and the interior design is bright, fun, and modern). So if you're in the area this is where you should grab something to hydrate instead of your usual Starbucks.

Here's to more Sunday afternoon discoveries.

Black Sunday

Two chainz.

When Rihanna wears something you know you're on the right track.

Last night I got the opportunity to volunteer at one of the post Grammy parties in this city (can't specific which one) and as one of my all time style inspirations walked past me twice, I couldn't help but notice her confident walk and powerful all black suit. Of course I was wearing a similar "business professional" look because of dress code protocol, but the fact that I almost matched with one of my favorites wasn't a bad feeling. Though I'm sure my Zara clearance section picks were a whole lot less expensive than her designer pieces.

Also, since I do live in LA I happen to know quite a large amount of talented and creative individuals, and so I had one of my friends do my makeup for the night and would certainly recommend her to anyone that wants their face flawless for whatever event or occasion.

Here's to dreaming that next year I'll get to go to the Grammy's.

Something fun is always necessary.
Visited the Seattle Art Museum today especially interested to see the pop art exhibit ending January 11th. Came out with renewed interest for creativity, and a few favorite art pieces in mind. I'm also especially fond of  artists who use modern technology to create items that are almost other worldly and dream like (and probably what one would experience on psychedelics). Jacolby Satterwhite's Country Ball 1989-2012 video struck me as one of a kind and as something I could stare at for a while without attaining any feelings resembling boredom.

A still from the video.
I also loved the art below, from the Warhol inspired hair by Mickalene Thompson, to the amazing fashion magazine/mixed media paintings by Robert Heinecken and the relevant as ever 1980's piece Seduction by Lynn Hershman Leeson
